Young muslims collect for annual Poppy Appeal

The collection last Saturday, marked the fourth year local members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association have supported the annual appeal.

Mubarak Shams, Regional AMYA Youth Leader for Croydon said: “We are delighted and proud to support the Poppy Appeal which provides much needed support to World War II veterans, those subsequently injured in war, and their families.

“Lots of Muslims actually served in World War I and World War II and most have ancestors who served in the army.

“We therefore hope that our participation is a clear indication of our desire for peace and unity between all nations, peoples and religions.”

  1. Can you please explain to us non-Englishmen what is a ‘poppy’-appeal? Google tells us:

“Poppy seed is an oilseed obtained from the opium poppy. The tiny kidney-shaped seeds have been harvested from dried seed pods by various civilizations for thousands of years. Wikipedia”

Are you in the opium business?

    No, @Rafiq, I’m unfortunately not! 🙁

“The Poppy Appeal” is just one of the ways English nations support their heroes.

    Its a kind of campaign.

    There’s a Poppy Appeal for Australia @ http://www.anzacappeal.com.au/‎

    Fo Scotland: http://www.poppyscotland.org.uk/

And in the post above the Ahmadiyya Youth Leader explains it as: We are delighted and proud to support the Poppy Appeal which provides much needed support to World War II veterans, those subsequently injured in war, and their families.

    The Poppy UK: http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal

It says Each year the nation shows its support for our work through the Poppy Appeal. Every poppy helps us to support the British Armed Forces past and present, and their families. Please give generously and wear your poppy with pride.
