The Saudis are engaged in a great gamble

The inhabitants of the desert kingdom of Saudi Arabia are not renowned for their sense of humour. In a country where public executions by beheading are commonplace, and even relatively minor transgressions such as drinking alcohol can be punished by the lash, the kingdom’s all-powerful religious police do not engender an atmosphere of levity.

So the fact that a video poking fun at Saudi Arabia’s long-standing ban on women drivers has gone viral, with nearly seven million hits registered since it was uploaded a few days ago, suggests that profound changes are taking place in the world’s most conservative country.

  1. Duly supported by US, the way house of Saud was playing with whole Islamic world was terrible. KSA was all out to implement its Wahhabi Brand Islam. IN Wahhabi interpretation of Islam those disagree with the sect are infidels liable to be executed. This philosophy is creating Islamic extremists all over. It looks as US and its allies have started realising it and now days of House of Saud seems to counted. Recent efforts by spiritual head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, while addressing at capitol hill, European parliament and UK parliament, world has seen news face of Islamic teachings. Hope without KSA fanatic role the world will be a better place to live and enjoy. KSA youth including women has to revolt to fanatic approach of House of Saud. Earlier it can do will be better.

  2. Well, I view it from a different angle and reason is quite obvious. Had they listened those advices they would have still not obsessed with satanic verses applaud in Malala’s new book.

What I think that Saudis are extremely worried. Syria was their buffered front to defend their dynasty control over Hijaz lands owing to current Arab spring, internet exposure and Iran’s regime withstanding. Since they have lost the that war in Syria they are not starting building their defenses and they must do it but I think its too late. Imam Kaaba call against Wahabi jihad was not intended to disown or denounce that Saudi Intelligence religious warfare but to build the Saudi defense against a likely backlash from those mercenaries after their return.
