Telegraph: Accounts published later this year will show that the Church’s pension fund has a £5.7 million stake in the internet search giant, alongside significant investments in a number of internet service providers.
It comes after the Archbishop of Canterbury admitted he was “embarrassed” to discover that the Church of England helped fund Wonga, the controversial payday loan company he wants to drive out of business.
Earlier this month David Cameron accused Google of being complicit in supplying illegal images of child abuse to “sick and malevolent” individuals.
He suggested that the company was profiting from the circulation of pictures and videos of children being sexually abused.
