Guest columnist: Islam distant from acts of terror

After pondering the terrorist attack on Boston by two alleged Muslims, Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his brother Dzhokhar, I am writing this article to distance Islam from any act of terror or violence, even if it is done by anyone who claims that his or her act is religiously motivated.

When a Muslim commits any act of violence against innocent people, this Muslim would be guilty of violating the basic tenets of Islam. According to Islam, it is a great sin to kill an innocent person, and anyone who does so will suffer great torment in the hereafter.

“So we decreed for the tribe of Israel that if someone kills another person — unless it is in retaliation for someone else or for causing corruption in the earth — it is as if he had murdered all mankind.” (Quran 5:32)
