(CNSNews.com) – Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is planning to hold talks with jihadists, including the umbrella group known as the Pakistani Taliban, despite the failure of numerous similar initiatives over the past seven years.
Campaigning ahead of the general election last May, Sharif pledged to negotiate a peace deal with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Pakistan’s Express Tribune on Monday quoted a senior official in his government as saying a “working group” to push this ahead would likely be formed after an all-party conference later this month.
“His information minister, Pervez Rashid, said at the weekend that if peace talks can be held with militants in Doha – a reference to the now-stalled attempt by the U.S. to meet with the Afghan Taliban – then there is no reason they cannot be held in Islamabad”
Drawing similarities to both scenarios speaks the shallow wisdom and vision the Pakistani leaders have. US is occupying force while in Pakistan TTP declines to recognize the legitimate government. What ever efforts may be made it is aught to fail. Basic problem of Pakistan is separation of religion from state. No one wants to address this issue. Every one wants cosmetic solution to enhance its political rating or to ensure prolongation of the governing period. Let PML (N) to taste it. At the end these leaders along with whole nation will repent.
