Former Speaker National Assembly – Sahibzada Farooq Ali

Rough Translation:

“Right before the inauguration of this conference, Pakistan’s first Nobel-Prize-winning scientist, Dr. Abdus Salam, met with me and handed me a secret file. He expressed his desire that I should go through the whole document. I had an old affiliation with Dr. Salam. He said to me that Farooq, “I know you have a special relationship with President Bhutto. He listens to your carefully and accepts what you say and you are able to openly discuss any matter with him. Therefore, you should convince him that he give us the required funding and we can create atomic power within our country and create the atomic bomb in parallel. It is our bad luck that from 1961 to 1972 we have not been funded for this purpose. If we were funded we would have created an atomic energy long before today and the atomic bomb as well.”

I also told him not to worry at all in this matter. Mr. Bhutto shares his concern and wants the same. I assured Dr. Abdus Salam that Mr. Bhutto has expressed this wish to many of his close aides including myself. “For its prosperity, happiness, and security Pakistan must obtain atomic technology. If it hadn’t been for our Marshal Law we would have crossed many milestones of prosperity and would have taught India a lesson in our war against them. He often said that if Jews, Hindus, Christians and other nations have an atom bomb then why not Muslims. When I hear that so and so country has an atom bomb then my heart yearns that Muslims should also have an atomic bomb so we can compete with those nations and our heads are raised with pride.”
