On Canada Day the Ottawa Ahmadiyya Muslim Community celebrated the country’s 146 th birthday at their Cumberland property, and they invited members of the community to join them in the festivities. In spite of the short notice of just a couple of days, several local residents were able to join the celebrations, and enjoyed the impressive BBQ, with tastily spiced hamburgers and chicken, and a variety of salads and desserts.
There was an official flag-raising and a number of short speeches, in recognition of the fact that this was the first such gathering at this location, and expressing the thought that the Ahmadiyya Muslim community and the Cumberland community should work and grow together to show how diverse cultures can cooperate to make a greater whole when their basic values are in harmony. And indeed, the CCA looks forward to participating in the activities that the Ahmadiyya Muslim community is planning to develop in the old school – as MPP Roy Galipeau said, ‘it will change from being a place of learning to being a place of – learning’.
We in the CCA thank the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for hosting this event, and look on it as a happy precursor of many such meetings.
