AMMAN — The Jordanian commission to defend Al Aqsa Mosque on Thursday called on the Arab and the Islamic nations to adopt a unified position that goes beyond mere condemnation, to safeguard the holy mosque from the threats of Israeli settlers.

In a statement, the commission’s president, Abdullah Obeidat, who is also president of the Jordan Engineers Association, said Israeli settlers who break into Al Aqsa Mosque under military cover of the occupation forces and desecrate the site to celebrate the so-called Temple Mount anniversary, which falls in mid-July, pose a threat to the mosque’s sanctity.
