Prominent author and legal luminary A G Noorani dropped a bombshell recently by claiming that Muhammad Ali Jinnah refused to accept Lord Mountbatten’s proposal to hold plebiscite in three states – Kashmir, Junagarh and Hyderabad in 1947.
Noorani, while speaking at a function in Srinagar to mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Greater Kashmir, said: “Kashmir question would have been settled had Muhammad Ali Jinnah accepted the proposal of Lord Mountbatten on November 1, 1947.”
History reveals that Indian Army landed in Kashmir in October 1947 and it had already taken its position when proposal, according to Noorani, was put forward. One wonders under whose supervision Lord Mountbatten wanted to hold plebiscite in Kashmir? Was it Indian Army’s presence in Kashmir which made Jinnah turndown the proposal? Or there were some other reasons.
Noorani’ assertions have triggered a debate and people have started wondering why Jinnah opposed plebiscite proposal?
Noorani also tried to bail out late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah by claiming that he was never in favour of Kashmir’s accession with India and he had sent two of his emissaries to Pakistan to meet Jinnah but he claimed that no one met them there and they had to return empty handed. Noorani’s assertions indicate as if Jinnah himself was not interested in Kashmir and he has to be blamed for Kashmir remaining unsettled. One wonders if Jinnah was not interested in Kashmir then why did tribals from Pakistan enter Kashmir and tried to liberate it?
Noorani is a prominent historian and his revelations cannot be brushed aside. Anyway history is history. What common Kashmiri today is looking at is his present and future. Past 23-years of turmoil in no way have brought Kashmiris close to… read the rest @ greaterkashmir.com
It’s an Irony that Ahmadis played role in creating militias for Jihad in Kashmir and Ahmadis are the ones kicked out of Pakistan occupied Kashmir and treated as untouchables in rest of Pakistan. There is a clear solution for this problem. Absolute justice demands that Kashmiri Pandits be allowed to return to their homeland without being harassed, as much as Indian Muslims want riot affected Gujarati Muslims be allowed to resettle in Gujarat. and Pakistan stop interfering in India’s internal matter relating to it’s Muslims.
Create not disorder in the land after it has been settled.
But sadly we can’t expect muslims(of certain nations) to act in a just and peaceful manner. Spreading fitna in the guise of religion seems hallmark of certain muslims. Astagfarullah
I fully agree with Haq Sahib. Tw of my relatives and many other Ahmadi youngster at that time fought in Kashmir with Furqan Force, you call militia, some of them gave their lives for the freedom of Kasmiris. Yes, it is true that the Ahmadis are treated very badly indeed in Kasmir. Worse than in Pakistan, where again Ahmadiyyaplayed a big role in the creation of it. Who brought Jinnah back to lead in the struggle for Pakistan? Indeed it was Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya. Most the so called leaders of Pakistan are the ofsprings of the then opponents of Jinnah and agains the idea of Pakistan. Khatme Nubuwwat people are all yesterdays Ahrar, well known for their treachory before the Partition. Then India kick them out and came to Pakistan and started under the disguise of various Religious Groups opposing Ahmadiyyat and causing disturbances to unsettle New Satate of Pakistan.

Absolute justice demands that history be put and understood in its proper perspective. For Ahmadis whether from Pakistan or India the loyalty to thier homeland and thier leadership is paramount. We should not confuse what Pakistan has done to its Muslim Ahamdi citizens after 1974 with what happened in 1948. The Furqan force was put in place on the instructions of the second Khalifa of Ahmadiyya Jamaat. Loving your homeland is a part of a Muslim’s faith. Disorder was created first by the Brahmin led Hindu Government to have landed its forces in Kahsmir and forcibly occupied it. Sir Zafarullah Khan presented this case to the UN in 1948 and the world accepted that a plebicite should be held which has not been held until now. Furqan force was a part of regular Pakitan Army and acted under its command. To call it a militia is a distortion of a fact. India should learn to behave according to its size and stop being so Pakistan obsessive.
