Global Post: Hawking, a theoretical physicist and math professor at the University of Cambridge, wrote a letter to the Israeli president saying that he had changed his mind about headlining the Facing Tomorrow conference.

Cambridge professor and world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking made a surprise move Tuesday announcing that he would boycott an Israeli ideas conference hosted by president Shimon Peres.

Hawking, 71, a theoretical physicist and math professor, wrote a letter to the Israeli president saying that he hadchanged his mind about headlining the Facing Tomorrow conference.

The letter was not public but a statement released by the British Committee for the Universities of Palestine on its website said “his independent decision to respect the boycott, based upon his knowledge of Palestine, and on the unanimous advice of his own academic contacts there”.
