AMMAN – Water fixtures that reduce consumption of the precious resource are now being installed in households in west Amman neighbourhoods, where water use is above the average rate.

Water-saving devices will be installed in 3,600 west Amman households by next week, under a campaign launched earlier this month by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the USAID-funded IDARA (Instituting Water Demand Management in Jordan) project.

“So far, 1,600 households in several west Amman neighbourhoods have been equipped with the water-saving devices free of charge. The areas covered include Khalda, Abdoun and Marj Al Hamam,” Nisreen Hadadin, director of the water demand management unit at the ministry, told The Jordan Times yesterday during a tour of houses where fixtures were being installed.

She noted that households in Tabarbour, Shafa Badran, the Seventh Circle area, Al Kursi, Dahiyat Al Rashid and Dahiyat Al Yasmeen will be also covered within a week.
