The Sacred Cows: Indian state uses draconian law to detain those accused of killing cows

LUCKNOW, India (Reuters) – More than half the arrests this year under a tough national security law in India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh have involved suspects in cases of cow slaughter, data showed.

The northern state has used the National Security Act (NSA), which allows for those deemed a threat to national security to be detained without charge for up to a year, almost 140 times in the first eight months of the year.

“The NSA has been invoked in 139 cases across Uttar Pradesh, of which 76 have been against the slaughter of cows,” Awanish Awasthi, a top state official, said in a statement.

      • ….where most of them will die enroute to wherever they are being sent to meet their fate!

From what I’ve heard and read, these cows are let to roam free where they do a lot of damage to crops on the farms. Before this ridiculous and impractical ‘law’ came into being, Hindu farmers used to sell them to their Muslim counterparts and kept quiet about the whole transaction though they knew what fate their cows were going to face.

This way the cow population was controlled. Now, they are playing havoc on farms and elsewhere, of course.

How strange that while these extremist Hindus protect their cows, they think nothing of killing humans to achieve their aim. To them the cow is more important than a human being like them.
