Leadership is a key principle of Management. Companies spend a fortune every year on developing leadership qualities of their managers for desired success.
As director of AIM, American Institute of Management (reconstituted from FIM the Fiji Institute of Management) I have been providing free training on Leadership in San Francisco Bay Area for the past twenty years. I found Americans are either non receptive to management Fraternity or are deeply prejudicial. I have not been able to figure out which one is true for they are willing to spend from $2000 to $5000 for a weekend seminar on the subject which we can offer for $500 including buffet lunch and coffee
Regardless of her political background, I respect the views of former HP CEO Carly Fiorina she expressed in her address to a Middle Eastern Economic summit a few years back
She spoke on how the Islamic culture influenced human progress.
Her concluding remarks are most admirable:
“As we work together, let us remember the example of Muhammad. When the Prophet Muhammad was still a young man, a stone fell from the Ka’ba. In response, the tribes of Mecca quarreled over which one would have the honor of returning it to its place. Rather than choosing one tribe over another, the young Muhammad solved the problem by placing the stone on a cloth so each tribe could hold a corner of the cloth, and all the tribes could lift it together.
May the wisdom of the Prophet Muhammad inspire us this week, and may his wisdom guide the Arab world as it works together to write a new story of the ages for our time.
Thank you for letting us be part of that journey”.
Those versed in spirituality and theological studies would agree that prophets are not products of their own making. They are not elected by people will be political leadership. They are appointed by God; all of them from Adam to Jesus and Muhammad.
MUHAMMAD AS A LEADER
Al Ameen!
In his youth he was part of group called AMEEN responsible to ensure those entering Mecca did a fair business and being just to all.
He was honored as the AL AMEEN – The most trusted one.
Business envoy
A famous business lady of Mecca Khadija employed young Muhammad on account of his sense of justice and fairness as her business envoy ( or regional marketing manager) to lead her her trade caravan to out of Meccan areas.
His visit convoy to Syria brought in enormous business. Khadija proposed and married the young Muhammad.
Prophet
When Muhammad, troubled by the worsening social and moral conditions of Arab resorted to meditation in cave Hira searching for solutions, he received revelation from heaven. God chooses him as prophet mentioned variously in the Bible.
Dianentional leadership.
What see through out his life as Prophet of God that he was a down to earth human with his humble followers who came from low social status such slaves and those not of great means and status. Of course the biggies, the tribal leaders opposed and denied him. The persecuted him and the small band of initial followers.
As revelations continued in small bits, ” precept upon precept, here a little, there a little,” the persecutions mount in Mecca. The Meccan leaders conspire to kill the Prophet of God.
Immigration to Medina and leadership
Guided by words of God, the Prophet and his close follower Au Bakr leave Mecca in the middle of a night to take refuge in Medina.
The Medinates were far more hospital and welcomed the Prophet with an open arm and in effect accepted his leadership.
Pact and treaties
As Muslim community in Medina expanded and others sought to join, the need for a common understanding became important.
A treaty is rwan and signed by the Muslims , Christians and Jews that served as means of justice among all coexisting in and around Medina. It contain both settlement and consequences of violations. This was unheard of in the entire Arabian peninsula. It became subject talk everywhere as well raised concerns among his enemies of the Prophet who sought to kill him. The pact signaled an alarm for them. They decided to attack Mecca and take down the Prophet.
Consultation
The Prophet acts most judiciously and seek advice from his Medina followers to defend against the Meccan aggression. H e does not order commits the people to a head on battle with the Meccan disbelievers. His consultation ensured lasting promise as the new followers vowed to fight with him at his front, back, right and left.”
Some even said if the Prophet ordered them to plunge into the ocean, they would not question him and give a blind obedience.
Phenomenal success
What followed are recorded as phenomenal success of the Prophet of God in a wide variety of situations he and his followers faced.
Consumed in the new message of the enlightening Quran replete with resounding God’s attributes of Ever Merciful, Gracious and Forgiving, All-haring, All-seeing with a promising path of righteous and spiritual rewards, Muslims gather in large numbers.
The final conquest
Finally, it is time for the Prophet and his people to re-enter Mecca the first House of God on earth.
A peace treaty is offered to the Meccans. They turn it down seeking to amend parts of it. The Prophet accepts the amendment and signs the first treaty and to return to Medina following year instead.
The treaty is the masterpiece for the whole humanity parts of which are replicated in the UNO Charter.
Although, there is concentration among they followers, no revolted.
10,000 santly men
The following year the Prophet and followers return to Mecca to perform the Hajj , pilgrimage to Kaaba.
His victorious without casualties that speaks the volume of his victory and leadership.
