King of Jordan in Paris for meeting on eliminating extremism online

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday departed for Paris to participate in a high-level meeting on the Christchurch Call to Action to Eliminate Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online.

The international summit is hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, a Royal Court statement said.

Attendees at the Paris summit will also include heads of state or government from Britain, Canada, Ireland, Norway, Senegal and Indonesia, according to AFP.

Top executives from Twitter, Microsoft, Google and Amazon will also attend, as well as a Facebook representative, the news agency said.

Ahead of the meeting, King Abdullah and Prime Minister Ardern will co-chair a roundtable discussions with executives and representatives of global tech companies to discuss the security challenges posed by extremists’ abuse of online and social media platforms and technology, according to the Royal Court.

HRH Crown Prince Hussein was sworn in as Regent, in the presence of Cabinet members, the statement added.
