UK: An Extremists Mosque in London

The Jamia Islamia Ghousia Trust of Luton – An Extremist Mosque in the Mainstream

The Jamia Islamia Ghousia Trust of Luton would like people to think it runs a wonderful mosque.

Fools and scoundrels will tell you that it most certainly does.

The reality is rather different.

Last Saturday, for example, it hosted Pakistani preachers Muhammad Naqeeb Ur Rehman and Muhammad Hassan Haseeb Ur Rehman.

The father and son are keen supporters of religious murder. For them, Mumtaz Qadri, the fanatic who murdered Pakistani politician Salman Taseer in 2011, is a hero and a martyr. Taseer was a bit soft on persecuted religious minorities, you see. This just won’t do. Not at all. Death.

A Telling Rally
Saturday’s visit is no surprise. One can see this in a telling rally held at the mosque last year.

Khatme Nubuwwat is a Pakistani movement dedicated to stirring up vicious hatred of Ahmadi Muslims. It should be driven out of this country, especially after the murder of Asad Shah in Glasgow.

The Jamia Islamia mosque would rather host its rallies. (Click the image to enlarge.)

Note that the poster shows Muhammad Hassan Haseeb ur Rehman, who is evidently popular at the mosque.

He’s a natural for this nasty work.

Consider a sinister image posted this summer on the Facebook account of Eidgah Sharif, the shrine his family runs in Rawalpindi. The man on the left is Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya movement. On the right is an alleged image of one of the Pharaohs. The image says that Mirza falsely claimed to be a prophet while Pharaoh falsely claimed to be God. The caption at the bottom says the poster swears by God that he hates these “Gustakh e Rasools” – those who disrespect the prophet. In these dark times Gustakh e Rasool is a term best read as incitement to hatred, including violence.

Another Pakistani preacher featured at this conference is Hanif Qureshi. He is a strong supporter of Mumtaz Qadri. This is the least he could do – he inspired the murderer. Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh, who has done a lot of good work to help Ahmadis, has Mr Qureshi’s number. Here she is speaking in Parliament:

Mufti Hanif Qureshi is an individual who is greatly responsible for spreading messages of hate. He is the founder of Shabab e Islami, and is well known in Pakistan for his virulent anti-Ahmadi preaching, of the sort that inspired the murder of Mr Shah. For instance, in a recording of a sermon Qureshi delivered in 2014, which is freely available on YouTube, he said with regard to Ahmadi Muslims:

“Let them know those who consider Sunnis as cowards that Allah has honoured us with the courage and power to strangulate those involved in blasphemy, to cut out their tongues, and to riddle their bodies with bullets. For this, nobody can arrest us under any law”.

Such highly inflammatory and hateful sermons have indeed incited others to commit violence and murder. In 2011, Pakistani politician Salmaan Taseer, who opposed Pakistan’s anti-Ahmadi laws, was shot dead by his bodyguard, Mumtaz Qadri. After his arrest, Qadri said he had been inspired to act by a 2010 sermon delivered by Qureshi in Rawalpindi, in which the cleric branded the likes of Taseer as “deserving to be killed” under Islamic law.

Note that Mr Qureshi was no chance visitor at the Luton mosque. Like the Ur Rehmans, he is very welcome and popular. He has spoken there six times since 2014.

The mosque was challenged about his visit in May 2016. Abdul Aziz Chishti, the mosque’s founder, managing trustee, and senior imam was having none of it:

The Luton mosque’s senior cleric, Allama Qazi Abdul Aziz Chishti, defended the decision to invite Qureshi to speak, saying he has renounced his hardline views.

“Let me make it very clear to you that he has changed his views, and his speech was very, very impressive last night [4 May], and he made very clear that he believes that Islam is a religion of love and peace and harmony. Anyone who is killing innocent people is nothing to do with Islam,” said Mr Chishti.

When asked whether the mosque backed the views Qureshi has expressed, Chishti said: “While we are living in this country we have got our own views. We are very clear we have got our own views and are living in accordance with the laws of this country.”

Abdul Aziz Chishti

Now if you look at Mr Qureshi’s Facebook account, you will see that he has renounced his “hardline views” by putting a picture of Mumtaz Qadri at the top of his profile.

On March 1, just after Qadri was executed, Mr Qureshi solemnly posted pictures of himself weeping over Qadri at his funeral.

Walthamstow preacher Abdul Qadir Jilani spoke at the Khatme event too.

Jilani praised Qadri and led prayers for him after he was executed.

Two more speakers at the Khatme event can be seen on video supporting Mumtaz Qadri –Syed Riaz Hussain Shah and Mohammed Raza Saqib Mustafai.

Oh, by the way, the mosque itself supports Qadri. When he was executed it hailed him as a “shaheed” (martyr).

Here is a poster for another Khatme event at the mosque. This is a pattern, not an anomaly.

Mainstream Support
This is England, so a nasty mosque can be reasonably confident it will be supported by mainstream figures.

Sure enough, its accounts filed with the Charity Commission show “local authority grants” of £125,031 in the financial year 2015. Over the last five years the grants totalled £473,827.

Local Labour MP Gavin Shuker is certainly keen. Here he is (the man in the red tie) two weeks ago at a celebration of Pakistan’s independence day. The event was totally segregated – only men were present in the main hall.

Here Mr Shuker hosts mosque leader Abdul Aziz Chishti in Parliament at an event in 2015 “held in honour and remembrance of our Beloved Prophet”.

Shuker even attended one of the mosque events where Hanif Qureshi spoke. Must be inclusive, eh.

Labour MEP Richard Howitt has visited to learn about “education & cultural activities for the community”.

In March Mr Chishti met Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. Oh, flowers! How lovely!

Local police officers visit the mosque, all happy clappy community grinning.

“Interfaith” leaders in the area cherish close relationships with extremist mosques. The Ghousia mosque is no exception.

In 2013, for example, the Bishop of Bedford was among guests at the mosque to “share the joy of Eid-ul-Fitr”.

Some people are still surprised that the UK has so many problems with Islamic extremism. Or so they say. Hey ho.

  1. I hope the british politicians don’t follow the Pakistani ones , put their own political future in front of their country’s. If you look at Pakistan’s political history you’l find things like this where the thugs and self made mullahs bought the politicians out with goodies and even money, because the thugs can command lots of votes as well as political contributions during election times. Then to the dogs will England go. Alas the birth place of democracy . Noe with Brexit there will be no EU uman rights commission to keep tab on what is being done in the UK.They should nip the ill in its bud or else it will be Englishtan.

  2. The British establishment is wrong in thinking that Imams are to blame for extremism. Imams are not solution to the problem for extremism. Extremism is nothing to do with Imams. Extremism is not created from abroad, it is coming from within. Britain fails to help Muslim communities feel part of British society. Race trouble is being predicted by the Daily Express, because of an ethnic boom in UK major cities. Muslim communities need imams for the solutions of their needs and demands in their own native languages. Muslim parents would like to see their children well versed in Standard English and to go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. The fact is that majority of Muslim children leave schools with low grades because monolingual teachers are not capable to teach Standard English to bilingual Muslim children. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit.

Terrorism and sexual grooming is nothing to do with Masajid, Imams and Muslim schools. Those Muslim youths who have been involved in terrorism and sexual grooming are the product of western education system which makes a man stupid, selfish and corrupt. They find themselves cut off from their cultural heritage, literature and poetry. They suffer from identity crises and I blame British schooling.

The shocking level of targeting of the Muslim community of Birmingham is indicative of the normalisation of the dehumanisation of the Muslims of Britain. Under the pretext of “extremism”, criminal undemocratic and unethical abuse of public institutions and the Muslims of the UK can occur without much accountability. This pervasive attitude, especially amongst officials like Michael Gove needs to change. Our schools are truly trying to develop our children to do well at schools so later in life they are able to stand on their own two feet, but if we stop our schools from doing this than our country will have up rise of unemployment, benefit issues, crime levels high, I think its time for you apologize and allow practitioners to do their job right.

  3. THE WORLD NEEDS LIBERAL IMAMS. EXTREMIST IMAM IS DANGEROUS FOR THE WORLD COMMUNITY.

If Islamic countries and the Western countries (non Islamic country) really want peace in this world, we have to change all extremist Imam from all Mosques with Liberal Imam, like Sadiq Aman Khan, the London’s major. He is liberal Muslim, who respect and love all people regardless his beliefs, religion, race and gender, (including LGBT). Liberal Muslim’s women do not wear Hijab at public place and work place. Because we believe strongly that Hijab is not Islamic identification or obligation, Hijab is the ancient Arab tradition who live in desert.

I believe also till now that Ahmadiyyah’s imam still reject the right of LGBT as well extremist Imam. (pls correct me if I make mistake ).
