Why Britain’s Ahmadis are worried

Source: Economist

THE murder of a shopkeeper in Glasgow on March 24th has drawn attention to Britain’s relatively small and unknown community of Muslims called the Ahmadiyya. Asad Shah, who ran a flourishing newsagent’s in Scotland’s second city, was one of about 30,000 Ahmadis in Britain. He was killed by a Sunni Muslim, Tanveer Ahmed, who travelled up from Bradford, in the north of England. Mr Ahmed released a statement through his lawyer, justifying the killing on the grounds that Mr Shah had “disrespected” Islam. This points to the deep hostility towards the Ahmadis among many other Muslims, and provokes the worry that such sectarianism, which has flourished in countries like Indonesia and Pakistan, may now have arrived in Britain.

  1. Good to know Ahmadiyya topic remains alive. Some important corrections needed in reportage. Founder of community did not invent traditions rather formulated a community know as Jamaat. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad a.s. is not a latter days new prophet rather Imam Mahdi and Messiah as prophesied by the Prophet of Islam (pbuh). However his status remained as subordinate prophet to Prophet of Islam (pbuh)
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad a.s. is not only awaited Imam Mahdi and Messiah for Muslims rather also second advent of awaited Jesus Christ a.s. As well reformers being awaited in different religions of the world.
The advent of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad a.s. can easily be understood if one follows the Prophet Moses whose hierarchy ended with appearance of Jesus a.s. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad a.s. has the stature of Jesus Christ a.s. in Islam. Christianity got boost almost in 300 years when influential people started adopting it as religion. Same destiny lies ahead for Ahmadiyya also. Currently its message is being spread round the globe. People are listening message and evaluating it. With passage of time, the Muslim and Christians belief about Jesus Christ a.s. will evaporate and majority will converge to the teachings of Ahmadiyya as it is extremely rationale and logical.
