Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice told CNN that the shooter is in custody. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was injured.

“We arrived to find multiple patients in multiple classrooms. Law enforcement was on scene and had the shooter neutralized,” Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler told CNN.

He said that two patients died while being transported to a hospital.

Hospital spokeswoman Kathleen Nickel said that six patients were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, with four more reportedly on their way. The extent of their injuries was not clear.

ATF agents were also on scene and canine teams are en route to search for explosives, fire arms casings and ammunition, a spokesman said.

Victims’ stories: ‘I was freaking out’
When Harper-Mercer began his shooting rampage, Hannah Miles and her classmates ran for their lives after hearing several shots.
Ms Miles told Associated Press their teacher told them to leave after receiving a call from security saying the school was in lock down.
“We began to run. A lot of my classmates were going every which way. We started to run to the center of campus. And I turned around, and I saw students pouring out of the building.”
“There was a huge pop. It sounded like a ruler smacking against a chalkboard. Everyone jumped and we didn’t know what was going on. Then there was another one.”
Meanwhile Sarah Cobb, 17, was also in a next-door classroom when she heard a shot. Like Ms Miles, her teacher told students to leave and the class ran out the door as she heard two more shots
“I was freaking out. I didn’t know what to think, what to do,” she said.
