Local young Muslims are hosting a federal election debate at the Aga Khan Museum in North York Friday, Sept. 18.

The debate will be live streamed. It runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The debate will include a GTA candidate representing each of the four major parties. The four candidates are:

• Karim Jivraj, Conservative Candidate for University-Rosedale

• Andrew Cash, NDP candidate for Davenport

• Hon. John McCallum, Liberal candidate for Markham-Thornhill

• Adnan Shahbaz, Green Party candidate for Oakville North-Burlington

DawaNet’s Project Civic Engagement is hosting the event with partnership from the National Council of Canadian Muslims and the Canadian Muslim Vote.

The organization says topics of discussion will include multiculturalism, immigration and issues that are important to young Muslim Canadians. Many topics are the same as those of many other Canadians, such as absence of job opportunities, rising income inequality, and concern over declining civil liberties, the organization says.

The discussions will also address the concerns over the intensification of Islamophobia in Canadian politics, Canada’s international standing, women’s rights, and national security.
