Man pardons son’s killer on day of execution

  1. Quran allows for the family to forgive the killer, but several things should happen. First and foremost the forgiveness should result in reform of the killer. If this is not going to happen then punishment is necessary. Ususally it applies to accidental killings. Criminal killings are to be punished. State is required to oversee all pardons to ensure there was no coercion. The crime was committed against a person who is now dead. Truely he is the only person who can forgive the killer. But he is no more. Therefore the default position is punishment of death. There has to be a strong reason for forgiveness or lesser punishment. The rights of the dead person hve to be protected by the society.
