On Sunday 20th June 2015 the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Mauritius commemorated the founding of the Jamaat by Sufi Ghulam Muhammad, r.a., on the 20th June 1915.
The centenary of the founding of the jamaat was commemorated by simultaneous functions at selected mosques around the island. At the Dar-us-Salaam mosque in Rose Hill, which is the headquarters of the Jamaat in Mauritius, the audience was addressed by Amir Sahib and followed by the Missionary in Charge, Maulana Basharat Naweed sahib.
The events surrounding the founding of the Jamaat 100 years earlier were recounted with inspiring insights into the conditions of the island at the time that the first missionary arrived. There was opposition to Sufi Sahib from before he arrived from some Muslims on the island, who tried to petition the British authorities to prevent his arrival. World War I was in progress at the time and there was heightened security amongst the British Colonial authorities. Despite the oppositions, Sufi Sahib was allowed to land in Mauritius and went on to found the Jamaat.
The occasion of the centenary was commemorated in various mosques simultatneously around Mauritius… members of the National Aamla presented the same accounts to the audiences.
