CHANDIGARH: Instead of crying foul after being target of yet another hate crime due to mistaken identity, the Sikh community in Glasgow city of Scotland has declared that it “completely abhors the hateful ideology of Islamophobia”. The community members earned praise and support on social media for their response after a yet-to-be opened gurdwara was vandalized with words “No Shariah” and a Nazi symbol. The Glasgow Gurdwara announced that they “remain committed to creating an equal and just Scotland, for all communities”.
The £15m gurdwara, in the city’s Berkley Street, is due to open later this summer. Though the graffiti on the wall of the gurdwara was done a couple of weeks back and Scotland police had registered it as a case of hate crime, the community members recently met and decided to make the incident public after discussion. There are close to 10,000 Sikhs in Glasgow. MORE
