Epigraph:
The hypocrites say, “If we return to Medina, the one most honorable will surely drive out therefrom the one most ‘mean’ (Muhammad);” while true honor belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the believers; but the hypocrites know not. (Al Quran 63:9)
Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death. (Leviticus 24:16)

Several of the articles linked here have comments and discussions on the issue of free speech. I believe that the discussion should start off with the following among other issues at hand:
European Convention of Human Rights
I think many of the exceptions for freedom of speech are tackled in the Article 10 of European Convention of Human Rights.
This Article provides the right to freedom of expression, subject to certain restrictions that are “in accordance with law” and “necessary in a democratic society”. This right includes the freedom to hold opinions, and to receive and impart information and ideas, but allows restrictions for:
We would certainly need the best legal minds humanity can offer to give concrete and legalistic details of the above exceptions that may be acceptable to people of all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities, at least the moderates among them.
If the Supreme Court Justices do not come to our rescue, may be a good and an accomplished writer can help out with a best selling book. But, the key is to at least, win the moderates, in all the established religions of the world and among the agnostics and atheists.

Early life and family[edit]
Raheel Sharif was born on 16 June 1956 in Quetta to a Rajput family[3][4] of prominent military background,[5] which has its roots in the town of Kunjah in the province of Punjab.[3] His father was Major Muhammad Sharif.[5] His eldest brother Major Shabbir Sharif, was declared as the martyr of Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 by Pakistan and received Nishan-e-Haider posthumously. He is the youngest sibling among three brothers and two sisters.[6] His other brother, Mumtaz Sharif has also served in Pakistan army, but got an early retirement due to medical reasons.[3] He is the nephew of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, another Nishan-e-Haider recipient, who was declared as the martyr of Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 by Pakistan.[7] He is married and has three children, two sons and a daughter.[5]

Military service[edit]
Chuck Hagel greets Chief of Army Staff General Rahaeel Sharif in Islamabad on December 9, 2013.
Sharif received his formal education from the Government College in Lahore and afterward attended the Pakistan Military Academy. After graduation in 1976, he was commissioned into the 6th Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment, where his elder brother had also served. He served as an adjutant to the Pakistan Military Academy and joined an infantry brigade in Gilgit. As a brigadier, he commanded two infantry brigades.[5]
In time, he was assigned command of the 11th Infantry Division in Lahore by General Pervez Musharraf. Sharif was also the General Commanding Officer of an infantry division and Commandant of the Pakistan Military Academy. Following his promotion to Lieutenant General, Sharif served as a corps commander for two years and then took over as Inspector General for Training and Evaluation in the Pakistan Army.[5]
Role in War on Terror[edit]
As the Inspector General for Training and Evaluation, he enhanced the military colleges in the country and provided unconventional training to the troops.[8] He also deals with the evaluation of military doctrines and war strategies with a view to shaping future training programs. He changed the army’s focus more towards carrying out counter-insurgency operations against Taliban militants.[8]
Sharif has played an important role in convincing other senior officers in the army that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and assorted militants inside Pakistan are as much of a threat as India. However, Sharif stressed that all possible threats will be dealt with accordingly, be it internally or externally.[9]
Chief of Army Staff[edit]
On 27 November 2013, Sharif was appointed as the 15th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.[6] According to sources, General Sharif is said to be uninterested in politics. But he was elevated over two more senior generals.[10] Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam, a senior general, resigned over Sharif’s elevation.[11] The other more-senior general, Rashad Mahmood was appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.[12] The News reported that General Aslam may have been superseded because of his action in the 1999 coup.[13]
In 2013, Sharif was conferred with Nishan-e-Imtiaz (military).[14]
According to The Economist, “Unlike his predecessors, General Sharif appears to see jihadists, principally in the form of Pakistan’s own Taliban, as the country’s greatest threat, and has sought the help of the Americans in countering it.”[15]

Shahid Lateef

Shahid Lateef
Air Marshal Shahid Lateef joined the PAF in September, 1971 and was commissioned in April, 1974. As the top appointment holder in PAF Academy, he graduated with top honours, and was awarded the coveted Sword of Honour. He is also a graduate of Naval War Course and the Armed Forces War Course.
Due to his outstanding performance on the Chinese F-6 aircraft, he converted on to the French Mirages at an early stage of his career. Then he was selected in the elite group of first six PAF pilots to undergo F-16 conversion in the USA. Shahid Lateef was the first pilot to ferry the F-16 from USA to Pakistan in 1982, and subsequently, formed part of the pioneer team for training pilots in Pakistan on the F-16 weapon system.
Shahid Lateef along with his team pilots flew numerous combat missions in defence of the country at the height of Afghan war in the 1980s. He was sent to UAE where he was entrusted with the command of a Mirage squadron; this honour is unprecedented in the Arab countries as only the locals are given such sensitive and prestigious appointments. With this high- profile record, he was selected to command a fighter squadron, fighter wing and a fighter base in the PAF.
After his promotion to the rank of Air vice Marshal, he was handed over the JF-17 project; a programme that was not able to take off due to serious difficulties, forcing the PAF to continue to operate obsolete equipment. Through his relentless efforts, the JF-17 was picked up from the drawing board and ultimately launched into the skies. The completion of this modern fighter aircraft in less than three years is a record in the recent aircraft development history.
It was due to his persevering commitment and the unparalleled progress made by this project that he led this very prestigious national strategic programme for five years as the Chief Project Director. The PAF and indeed the country are indebted to him for this supreme contribution that he has made towards building up the operational capability of the PAF. The aircraft has tremendous potential for export and could thus play a major role in uplifting the national economy by earning hundreds of millions of dollars for Pakistan.
The JF-17 has entered into the PAF and it would go on replacing all aircraft on the PAF inventory except the F-16s which have a remaining life. After this proud achievement, Air vice Marshal Shahid was promoted to the rank of Air Marshal and appointed as the Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations). One and a half year later, he took over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
Shahid Lateef has led the PAF in many war games held at the National level. Despite his enviable career, he is a very polite, humble and God fearing individual. He is married and has four daughters.

The Chief of the Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force, abbreviated as CAS, is typically the highest ranking 4-star rank officer in the Pakistan Air Force, unless a four-star officer is appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The CAS is a senior and permanent member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The CAS heads the Air Staff of the Air Force and reports directly to the President of Pakistan and Prime Minister of Pakistan. Under the authority of the President, the CAS is responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of Reserve and civilian forces serving in the Pakistan Air Force and overseas. The CAS also allocates Air Force personnel and resources to the subordinate commanders of the Air Force. Constitutionally, the CAS is subordinated to the President and the Prime Minister and reports directly to the civilian leadership.
The CAS is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The appointment does not require the Senate Secretariat’s confirmation. By statute, the CAS is the equivalent of a four-star general and holds the rank of Air Chief Marshal. The current Chief of the Air Staff is Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt.
