A 27 year old Ahmadi Luqman Shehzad in Gujranwala was made victim of target killing on 27 Dec 2014. The incident is the aftermath of blatant incitement to violence on a recent TV program hosted by Aamir Liaquat Hussain, aired on Jang Group’s Geo TV.
On Aamir Liaquat’s morning show “Subh-e-Pakistan” aired on December 22, 2014 clerics from various sects accused Pakistan’s peaceful and persecuted Ahmadiyya community of backing terrorism in the country. The clerics labelled Ahmadis as “Jewish agents” and traitors in this inflammatory segment. They urged Muslims to unite against and recognize “this root cause of terrorism” in the country.
It’s not the first time that Jang Group / Geo TV gave airtime to hate clerics who incite hatred and violence against Ahmadis. In 2008, Aamir Liaquat and other Geo TV anchors have been regularly providing free air time to hate clerics from various backgrounds.
The Holy Qur’an prevent from inciting violence and hate and requires every Muslim to preach and propagate his message in a the best way. God Almighty did not allow even the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) to go beyond limits. The Prophet was told that his mission was to deliver the message and that he was not made guard over non believers.
We request the authorities and the world that Aamir Liaquat Hussain and all of those clerics who incited the violence against Ahmadis in his program be prosecuted along with the owner of Jang/Geo and the senior officials of the Geo TV network.
People who were directly involved in hate speech against Ahmadis: Hamza Ali Qadri, Muhammad Arif Shah Awaisi and Aamir Liaqat Hussain
People who appreciated the hate speech indirectly or remained silent were: Muft Imran ul Haq Kalyanvi, Qari Usman, Shabir Hussain Meethi, Muhammad Younis Siddiqui and Mir Shakil ur Rehman.
This hate speech incited violence and resulted in the target killing of a 27 year old Ahmadi Luqman Shehzad in Gujranwala on 27 Dec 2014. It is the same city where more three Ahmadis including two minors and a woman were burnt alive by a fanatic mob a few months ago and not a single perpetrator has been arrested and charged by the Shahbaz Sharif administration.
We loudly and clearly condemn murder of Ahmadis in Pakistan and request the government of Pakistan and the world community to take steps to stop incitement of hate speech against Ahamdis from all platforms.
