The majority of Canadians say they see the country’s Muslim community as a “positive force” in the fight against radicalism, though a new poll suggests we believe Muslim leaders could be doing even more to combat homegrown terrorism.
The findings are part of a new survey released on Wednesday, which suggests that most Canadians understand there is a clear distinction between radicalized Muslims and the community at large.
According to the study released by the Angus Reid Institute, 58 per cent of Canadians believe the Muslim community is a positive force in the battle against radicalization in Canada.
That still leaves a sizable minority (42 per cent) claiming the community is part of the problem.
The numbers skew slightly when they are compiled based on whether the respondent believes radicalized individuals currently live in their community. Those who believe there are, are more likely (53 per cent) to see the Muslim community as part of the problem. Those who don’t believe there are radicals in their neighbourhood are more likely (66 per cent) to see the community as a partner.
The Angus Reid survey also found 73 per cent of Canadians feel that Muslim community leaders should be doing more to speak out against homegrown terrorism.
And when it comes to the acceptance of religious artifacts, there still seems to be a hierarchy of acceptance. While the majority of Canadians supported the wearing of the hijab and nun’s habit (73 per cent and 88 per cent), nearly three-quarters of respondents opposed the public wearing of a niqab, a veil that covers a woman’s entire face.

About 9 million Muslims have made America their new Homeland and we have the Constitutional rights of Freedom of Speech and Religion. Nobody can intimidate us. CAIR and many Muslim organization protect our rights. We will continue to be a light to America and invite others to Islam. But we will not force anybody. Everyday, We see an increase in Muslim population with new converts. This shows how Islam is becoming popular and more acceptable to people. Please note more people have converted to Islam after the horrific events of 911. And 911 was masterminded by the enemies of Islam.
Islam is portrayed as a religion of “terror” and “killing”, yet this is just one of the most widely held misconceptions about Islam. Allah Almighty states unambiguously in the Quran (what means): “Nor take life — which Allah has made sacred — except for just cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given his heir authority (to demand retaliation or to forgive): but let him not exceed bounds in the matter of taking life, for he is helped (by the Law).” [Quran 17:33]
The West has never been at ease with Islam since the Crusades. It is unfortunate that huge oil supplies lie under the Arabian Deserts. It is the West that stirred the trouble that led to 9/11. That attack was a desperate act of by men prepared to lose their life. We need to get to grips on who is the terrorist? On 24 November 1963, Lyndon Johnson said, “the battle against communism… must be joined… with strength and determination. Some three million lives were lost in the consequential battles. The US had to pull out due to Public Opinion. Communism lived on. So who was the terrorist?
Terrorism and sexual grooming is nothing to do with Masajid, Imams and Muslim schools. Those Muslim youths who have been involved in terrorism and sexual grooming are the product of western education system which makes a man stupid, selfish and corrupt. They find themselves cut off from their cultural heritage, literature and poetry. They suffer from identity crises and I blame British schooling.
Western media and politicians have been trying their best to propagate against Muslim schools. Muslim schools are even called Osama bin Laden Academies by a Teaching Union. Only less than 5% of Muslim children attend Muslim schools while more than 95% are in state schools to be mis-educated and de-educated by non-Muslim monolingual teachers. The demand for state funded Muslim schools is in accordance with the law of the land. Muslim community is not asking for any favour. State schools get appalling Ofsted reports as well. There will be good and bad state schools and good and bad free schools. Muslim Girls school tops state school rankings in Blackburn. Yet, the only news we get is about a failing school in Derby.
