Jamat Islami Munawar calls for Qital to eliminate oppression

LAHORE: Former Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan on Saturday called for waging Jihad and ‘Qital Fisabilullah’ (armed fighting for the sake of Allah) for the elimination of oppression from Pakistani society along with the democratic struggle, saying Jihad was the fundamental principle of Islam, which had nothing to do with terrorism and militancy.

Delivering a special address at the JI three-day congregation at the Minar-e-Pakistan, the JI leader said: “Due to propaganda against Jihad, people are now even ashamed of using this word, as Jihad has been declared as terrorism. We need to wage Jihad in the way of Almighty Allah along with democratic struggle to eliminate oppression and injustice.”

He expressed his desire that the JI and the Tableeghi Jamaat should join hands for changing society, saying both religious parties were struggling for the common good and formation of a just, Islamic society in Pakistan.

Criticising the ongoing military operations in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) by the Pakistan Army, he reiterated that military operations had never been a solution to insurgency anywhere in the world, adding that military operations had created more problems and chain reactions than bringing peace.

“Neither the military operation in Swat nor the ongoing war in South Waziristan by the Pakistan Army is solving any problems, facing the country. Only people in a large number are suffering and have become displaced persons in their own country,” he said while addressing the All Pakistan Ijtemah-e-Aam.
