One of the biggest Muslim youth groups in the UK is due to start its poppy appeal on Monday and they’re hoping it’ll be their biggest yet.
The London mosque, that acted as a bomb shelter during World War II, has sold poppies in London before, but this year is aiming to reach the whole nation.
Volunteers can be found at tube stations and rail stations across the UK to try and beat the money they’ve raised in previous years, reaching £20,000 in 2011.
Their desire to support the cause is two-fold; not only to raise money for the poppy appeal, but to contrast with the events involving Islamist extremist and their negative actions towards poppies in the past.

Charity is an act of faith and an integral part of Islam. We believe that, as Muslims living in the UK, we have a duty to support our country and contribute to its well-being. Ahmadi Muslims never accept any public funding- instead we believe virtue springs from giving. Islam is often in the news when extremists hit the headlines. Well here is an opportunity for us to show that Islam is a religion of peace. Charity is a fundamental pillar of Islam and a core teaching to promote peace.
