“Terrorists must be prevented from establishing bases in Muslim countries,” Rafsanjani said in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in Tehran on Thursday.
Rafsanjani condemned the massacre of innocent people in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Pakistan, arguing that the current trend threatens the stability of the entire Middle East and serves the interests of the enemies of the Muslim world.
He pointed to the rising terrorist operations in Iraq, and said, “Iran will provide the Iraqi government with the cooperation necessary to maintain efforts to protect its independence and sovereignty and fight any form of terrorism.”
Zebari, for his part, stressed the importance of enhanced strategic ties between Baghdad and Tehran, and said, “Such ties will positively influence the establishment of regional security and stability.
The Iraqi foreign minister said that his country is suffering the most in the region from extremist movements, and expressed the hope that other countries would extend their assistance and cooperation to stop terrorist acts in the Muslim country.
In January, Rafsanjani warned against repercussions of extremism and terrorism, and took the hegemonic powers responsible for creating, leading, and backing these evil phenomena across the world.
In a meeting with former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in Tehran on Monday, the former Iranian president held arrogant powers accountable for the rise of terrorist groups in the world.
“The fire that these powers have ignited will one day inflict upon themselves as we can see that such a thing has already happened in many countries,” Rafsanjani underlined.
Rafsanjani censured bloody conflicts across the world, particularly in the Middle-East, and stated that global arrogance and colonial powers play a dominant role in the outbreak of such incidents
