Bitter irony of assistance

Pledges of monetary support to alleviate the horrific humanitarian situation in and around Syria were made once again in Kuwait Wednesday, with the international community able to boast of a new figure of $2.4 billion.

Some might suggest that a parallel conference is needed, namely one that figures out how to actually get humanitarian assistance to the people who need it.

  1. Well, at least the UN will be well off.

    (‘Humanitarian business’ is the best business. The UN and other aid agencies get first the money, then take first their cuts and then think about how to distribute whatever is left – if ‘security permits’…)
