1380 Sunni, Shia scholars to attend Islamic unity meeting in Tehran

Epigraph

And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah and be not divided; and remember the favor of Allah which He bestowed upon you when you were enemies and He united your hearts in love, so that by His grace you became as brothers; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah explain to you His commandments that you may be guided. (Al Quran 3:104)

TEHRAN – Tehran will host an international conference on Islamic unity from January 17-19, the secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought announced on Tuesday.

The conference entitled “The Holy Quran and Its Role in Uniting the Islamic Ummah” will bring together 1380 Sunni and Shia scholars from 58 countries, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki told reporters.

The participants are from Muslim and non-Muslim countries, the ayatollah said.

President Hassan Rouhani will open the conference by delivering a speech, he added.

He said Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani will also present a speech to the participants.

  1. 1. Are Ahmadis invited?
    2. Did we approach them?
    3. Can our scholars give press conference regarding this event.
    4. MTA is our biggest tool to go on and address this issue
    5. In fact President Rouhani and Ayatollah speeches must be Telecast on MTA, along with in between remarks where ever needed (like John Stewart) to point out how certain things are possible and certain not possible
    6. I am sure Muslim Times going to publish their speeches.

  2. i would like to know the main differences between the sunni and shia moslems. am from uganda, i like to see moslems unity under one leadersship. this article is good

    • Yaseen: We will try to bring some articles from time to time to show the difference between Sunni and Shia. However, generally speaking we have to remember that the main difference was political and not religious right from the beginning. Even now the main difference between Iran and Saudi Arabia is the quest for political power in the region. Moslems under one leadership: That is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the only Jama’at with a Khalifa!!! See http://www.alislam.org and read more on The Muslim Times about it.

  3. I wish that Jama’at Ahmadiyah Muslimah was represented in that important meeting. Jama’at should approach the organizers to inform them of our good wishes and prayers. At least the president of Iran should get a letter from Jama’at.
It would be good to note their opinion, if any group is reformed. They all seem to be in distress due to their own folly.
Actually, it was the duty of the organizers to include Jama’at Ahmadiyah Muslimah in that meeting. If they do not invite us (as they have not done so) then it is useless to request for consideration or hope for any good result.

It would be useful to keep recording of all speeches of the event.
