Humanity First to provide clean water, food and emergency goods for victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Humanity First – a Canadian relief organization is assisting the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines that caused damage in six eastern and central islands and an estimated death toll of more than 10,000.

An estimated 11.3 million people have been affected. Infrastructures including homes, schools and hospitals have been partially or fully destroyed due to the wind, rain and massive storm surges caused by the cyclones. 4.7 million children under the age of 18 are at the risk of exposure to disease, malnutrition, and protection violations.

Humanity First has deployed a team from Canada to complement the local Humanity First volunteers who are already on the ground. The team from Canada will provide immediate support to clean water supply, food and emergency relief goods for victims.

 

Some members of the team will be leaving tonight from Pearson International Airport, Toronto while others are already on their way. Volunteers will travel to Manila and from there to Kalibo and then to Roxas City to help the affected population. Humanity First is sending Water Purification Units and other emergency supplies from Canada.

Commenting on deployment of volunteers, Dr. Aslam Daud, Chairman Humanity First Canada said:

“Every one of us can play a critical role in times of extreme need. Some can travel thousands of miles and help the victims of disasters. Others can help remotely by supporting the relief work” “Inaction is not an option for people who care”. He added.

Additional groups of Aid Workers will be deployed in next few days upon further assessment of need.

Humanity First has responded to many recent disasters including recent Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts in USA East coast, floods in Philippines, famine in north east Africa, Japan tsunami, Haiti earthquake and Pakistan floods. In post disaster phase, Humanity First has also built local infrastructure to alleviate poverty in these countries.
