Supreme Court to Revisit Public Prayer

CBN: Public prayer goes before the U.S. Supreme Court again next Wednesday.

The case involves the small town of Greece, N.Y., which still holds prayer before its public meetings.

Prayer cases have gone before the Supreme Court before, why is this one critical? David Cortman, senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, talked about this and more on Newswatch, Nov. 4.

The Alliance Defending Freedom is supporting the city and said that American governments from federal to local have a long history of constitutionally protected prayer.

In fact, the Justice Department recently stepped into the case, siding with the town of Greece.

  1. This issue is not only about Christianity versus atheism, but, also about which religion!

    The more Jesus is stressed in the prayers, the more prayer becomes an Ad. for Trinitarian Christianity as opposed to Judaism, Islam and Unitarian Christianity.

    I have seen prayers, in USA, which are apparently to God the Father, but, every so often Jesus, may peace be on him, is stressed in the prayer, as if people are praying to him.

    At any rate from the perspective of atheism or agnosticism, it certainly is violation of Separation of Church and State.

    The Quranic wisdom on this issue is:

    Say, ‘O People of the Book! come to a word equal between us and you — that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partner with Him, and that some of us take not others for Lords beside Allah.’ But if they turn away, then say, ‘Bear witness that we have submitted to God.’ (Al Quran 3:65)
