UK: ‘SAS murdered Diana’ claims are new, says former Met Commissioner Lord Stevens

Claims that Diana, Princess of Wales, was murdered by the SAS did not emerge in Scotland Yard’s “thorough and far-reaching” investigation into her death, the former top policeman who led the inquiry said today.

Metropolitan Police detectives are examining allegations that the British Army’s elite special forces regiment was involved in the Princess’s death in Paris nearly 16 years ago.

The claims came to light during the recent second court martial of Danny Nightingale, the former SAS sniper who was convicted of possessing an illegal firearm. Former Met Commissioner Lord Stevens, who led Scotland Yard’s three-year, £3.7 million investigation into how the Princess died, said it was right for the new allegations to be examined by police. His report, published in 2006, dismissed conspiracy theories that the Princess had been murdered by British spies or the Duke of Edinburgh, and rejected claims that she was pregnant or had got engaged to her boyfriend Dodi Fayed.

Lord Stevens concluded, as a previous French inquiry had done in 1999, that Mr Paul had been under the influence of alcohol and driving too fast when he collided with a pillar in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

  1. The way Princess Diana lived her life after very failed marriage with Prince Charles which was from the start on shaky grounds. It was a brewing recipe for a tragic end. Anything was possible for end and many powerful groups were angry the way she departed from royal family link and lead a new life.
So blaming someone at this time is just opening the can of worms for new discussion in media to keep readers and internet participant involve.
