Stephanie Banister referred to Islam as a country, and confused the word ‘halal’ with ‘haram’ – which has the opposite meaning.
She also claimed that Jews follow the teachings of Jesus, and was unable to name her two opponents for a parliamentary seat in Brisbane.
Ms Banister, 27, is a trained welder who is contesting the House of Representatives seat of Rankin for the anti-immigrant One Nation party in next month’s federal election.
The mother of two rose to prominence when she was arrested for going into a supermarket and putting stickers saying ‘halal food funds terrorism’ on Nestlé products.

No it is not good to exploit this poor persons predicament even if she is a politician. She was misquoted by some mischief maker who knew that pressing the buttons of Muslims would get a reaction.
When you are a reactionary in Western thinking people know what winds you up. So they keep creating situations that ignite tensions.
Sadly whether we agree with this or not it is done. So please we have to respect one another’s symbols and values. Especially Muslim and Christian beliefs even if we don’t agree with them.There is room enough in this world for all. Then suck in a breath every time you hear or read some thing that will inflame. Say who or where are we reading this? Is there a third party involved who could be using this situation .
Even PM Gillard was quoted as saying ‘go Home Muslims if you don’t like things in Australia’. She never actually said that but it was left on the site so we could read all the bad stuff that was generated online by others. Do we need to promote red necks and narrow minded thinkers. Its there so don’t buy into it.Delete it.
@Mike please stop apologizing for people like her. See BBC this morning. This was not the only stupidity she committed. She is also now being tried for being a racist. Australians I know deserve better than her.
