A Norwegian interior designer jailed in Dubai for illicit sex after she reported being raped says she has no regrets about coming forward if her warning will protect others from a similar fate. A court on July 17 sentenced Marte Deborah Dalelv to 16 months in prison for having sex outside marriage, drinking and making false statements. She says a male colleague pulled her into his hotel room and raped her after she asked him to help her find her own room when they had had a few drinks. The 24-year-old has been released on condition she remain at a Norwegian Christian centre in Dubai pending the outcome of an appeal. Asked if she regretted reporting the assault, Dalelv said no: “The truth is the only thing that will help me get through this.”The news has dominated the front pages in Norway and raised questions about the judicial system in the Gulf state, which lures large numbers of expatriates and tourists with a Western lifestyle but has little-publicised conservative laws on its books covering sex and alcohol.

  1. Those bringing Islam inside are just spreading hatred against this great religion. it is all politics which this UAE country is playing. Now if some male member has raped this lady from where she should bring the four witness. With modern development in science and technology the DNA test is sufficient proof to try the case. Real teachings of Islam support the use of modern science developments for absolute justice. And it only Ahmadiyya Muslim community which interpret Islam that way. These sitting in justice courts know nothing about the real Islam and interpreting Islam just to their own political advantage. On the other side when Ahmadiyya exposes to them the real Islam they all get united and start declaring Ahmadiyya as infidel and out of the pale of Islam. What an unfortunate scenario.

  2. The story of Yousuf (AS) indicates that even if there are no witnesses, still one may use even simple logic to determine the issue. Yes Islam uses common sense including using modern techniques. Looks like writers/and reporters just telling the courts what they shud do. I wonder what Islam tells about drinking and being alone with a male? There are questions unanswered, like why she did no call for any help if she was pulled by force, and why she made false statements before the court? Anyways looks like both sides need to make corrections. Doesn’t this report already sound biased and incomplete. So shudn’t we be careful before making any judgments.
