CAIRO — Jordan on Sunday reaffirmed its support for Egypt in its efforts to overcome the current circumstances, safeguard its security and stability, and achieve the aspirations of the Egyptian people towards a prosperous future.

At a meeting with Egypt’s caretaker President Adli Mansour, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh conveyed greetings and best wishes from His Majesty King Abdullah to the Egyptian people, voicing hope that Egypt would resume its “historic role, at both regional and international levels”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Jordan voiced support for Egyptian people after the armed forced deposed former president Mohamed Mosri.

In a statement on July 4, Judeh said Jordan respects “the will of the Egyptian people whose resolve has left the whole world amazed at their determination”.

King Abdullah has also congratulated Mansour for his appointment as interim leader of the country in a cable and, later, a telephone call.

Judeh and Mansour reviewed the relations between the two countries, stressing the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving the “outstanding ties” and to build on them in a manner that serves the interests of both countries, according to Petra.

Mansour expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom for its support and the King for his gestures and efforts to bring about peace and security in the region.

During his visit to Cairo, Judeh also met with Arab League Secretary General Nabil El Araby with whom he discussed the regional situation and efforts to pave the way for the resumption of peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, highlighting the efforts of US Secretary of State John Kerry in this regard and the need to support the US-led peace push.

The two officials discussed the developments in Syria, stressing the importance of ending the violence there through a political solution and expressing their concern over the escalating sectarian conflict and growing division.

Meanwhile, the Arab League announced on Sunday that a meeting will convene in Amman on Wednesday between an Arab ministerial delegation and Kerry.

According to Araby, the Arab foreign ministers will be acquainted with the outcome of Kerry’s efforts to relaunch peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
