I was beginning to think that Pakistan was finally on its way to improving its dismal public image. The recent national elections, bloody and chaotic as usual, at least had the effect of reenergizing the country on the domestic front and the global stage. Social media played a big role with one of the candidates, Imran Khan, former cricket star turned politician, trending on Twitter. Campaign t-shirts were being sold on the Internet. Naya Pakistan was the catchall slogan. New Pakistan. Well, folks, I guess we were too optimistic.
The wwrtier says. “One question that needs to be asked, simple as it sounds, is why. Why is it that a country so rich in history and culture will not get to show this side to outsiders? Why is a country of 200 million strong being held hostage by a minority of evil minded anarchists? When will Pakistan ever be free from the clutches of US foreign policy? The attackers freely admitted their heinous crime was retaliation against American drone strikes on Pakistani soil”
Dear Maliha you are also one of the stereo type who is unable to analyse the actual problem of Pakistan. Being son of the soil I tell you very loudly and clearly it is the mixing of religion with the state affair. Seeds were sown in 1974 by Bhutto further fertilized by Zia in 1984. When state becomes responsible to decide the religion of its citizens such things occur very oft. Now even in primary schools minds of small children are been poisoned to teach who is Muslim and who is not. Deobandi and Saudi Wahhabi have hijacked Islam and any one not fitting to their definition is infidel and liable to be killed. This is the main problem and not the drone attacks. I would suggest unless this Deobandi and Wahhabi mindset is not eliminated from the whole of Pakistan there is no solution to the cancer of extremism in Pakistan. Drone attack is just a lame excuse. These extremists are up to kill all those who do not accept their definition of Islam. Current PM or for that matter Imran Khan all are incompetent and do not expect any change. Nation has to wait for some real Messiah to reform it. The one who claimed to be has been rejected by this unfortunate nation.
