The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat on Friday held its annual national ijtema (youth conference) at Nasir Ahmaddiyya Senior Secondary School in Basse, Upper River Region (URR). The conference, which started on Friday, was held with the motto; “a nation cannot be reformed without reforming its youth”.

Speaking at the conference, Alhaji Omar Khan, the governor of URR, stated that youth are the future leaders of tomorrow. He stressed that to become a good leader one should have discipline because one cannot be educated without discipline and without education one cannot excel.

He also spoke at length about going to Europe using the back way. According to him, parents are the one giving money to the youth going to Europe through the back way. Governor Khan therefore appealed to parents to educate their children to ensure rapid development. He also thanked the Ahmadiyyan Jamaat for contributing in the development of the country, by building schools and hospitals across The Gambia.

For his part, the deputy governor of the Central River Region (CRR) praised the Ahmadiyya Jamaat for its immense contributions in the development of Islam in The Gambia. He disclosed that the young people of the country are blessed since they have their elders who guide and teach them the moral of Islam.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Muhammed Magassy, the National Assembly member for Basse, welcomed the delegates, adding that this is the first time the Ahmadiyya is hosting its annual national conference in Nasir, Senior Secondary School. He prayed for the success of the conference and urged participants to love each other and prevail the peace of the country.
