VESTAL — The green and gold-robed seniors at Vestal High School were challenged to leave a mark on the community with the same tenacity they showed in the classroom.

Tayyab Shah, valedictorian, addresses his classmates during Vestal High School's graduation in the Events Center at Binghamton University.
“This is certainly an overachieving group,” said high school Principal Catherine Hepler at the school’s graduation ceremony Saturday in the Events Center at Binghamton University. “You will leave your mark not only in the school, but also in the world.”
Between several intentional breaks to allow class members to toss around beach balls, the graduating seniors got the proverbial advice about commencement not being the end but the beginning.
“This is the beginning of the rest of our lives,” said Tayyab Shah, valedictorian, who will attend Princeton University. “We must set new goals that will define our lives.”
