New Video: Conversation of Dr. Abdus Salam, a Noble Laureate in Physics, with Akhtar Said

Youtube: Hammad Said: Published on May 24, 2013

This conversation with Dr Abdus Salam, the only Nobel Prize winning Physicit from the whole muslim world, was recorded by my uncle Akhtar Said, back in the late 1980s, when he invited Dr. Abdus Salam to advise the government on transforming the educational system of Pakistan, with special emphasis on science and technology education. Needless to say that the initiative did not go anywhere, because of the total lack of support by both the Punjab Govt (then headed by Nawaz Sharif), and the central government of PPP. But, Dr. Salam and Akhtar Said developed deep friendship during the period, each convinced of deep sincerity, commitment, and ability of the other to bring about a radical change in Pakistan’s educational system. They took the time out from their busy focus on educational policy to record this casual conversation covering Dr. Salam’s views on science, religion, mathematics and his life achievement. Unfortunately, i could not get hold of the whole conversation (which spread over many hours), but only portion of it. I consider it a national treasure and want to share with the rest of my countrymen the views and ideas of the greatest son of Pakistan.

  1. Abdul Alim Saheb,I don’t think that Professor Dr Mohammad Abdus Salam is “the only Nobel Prize winning scientist from the whole muslim world”.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslim_Nobel_Laureates

Wikipedia writes “He is the first and only Pakistani to receive the award. He is also the first Muslim scientist and only Muslim physicist to be awarded the Nobel Prize”

    Dr. Boodhun

    • True Dr. Sahib. Actually an Arab Scientist (see below) also won a nobel. It should say the only Muslim Physicist. Corrected

Egyptian – American scientist The 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Ahmed Zewail “for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy”.[56] He is the only Muslim chemist to date to be awarded the Nobel Prize and the second Muslim scientist.[6][57][58][59][60]

  2. You Tube is blocked in Pakistan. If you could put this on, say, Vimeo, more Pakistanis could see it.

  3. Correct statement would be: Dr Abdus Salam is the first Muslim Nobel Scientist.
Similar words were written on his tomb stone.
Word “Muslim” was crossed and Now it shows :
    Dr Salam,first Nobel scientist.
He always stood out first in his life and will remain the first!
