Kaur Lab UK CIC Statement on the Tragic Death of Kirandeep Kaur

Kaur Lab UK CIC is deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic killing of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur in west London.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Kirandeep’s family, friends and loved ones as they face an unimaginable loss. Reports indicate that Kirandeep was the mother of a two-month-old baby, making this tragedy all the more devastating. Our hearts go out to her child, who will now grow up without their mother.

This is a devastating tragedy that has sent shockwaves through Sikh communities across the UK and internationally. Every woman deserves to live free from violence, and every child deserves the love, safety and protection of their mother.

We are aware that Kirandeep’s family have publicly expressed concerns that the attack may have been racially motivated. These concerns deserve to be treated with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity. While the Metropolitan Police investigation is ongoing, it is essential that every possible motive is thoroughly, independently and transparently investigated so that the family, and the wider community, can have confidence that justice has been served.
The loss of a young woman is always devastating. The loss of a young mother is a tragedy that will leave a lifelong impact on her child, her family and everyone who loved her.

Violence against women and girls continues to devastate lives across our communities. Whether motivated by misogyny, racism, hate or other forms of violence, every woman who loses her life is a stark reminder that much more must be done to prevent violence before it escalates to homicide.
Kaur Lab UK CIC calls on all agencies to ensure that Kirandeep’s family receive every possible support throughout the criminal justice process and that the investigation is conducted with transparency, compassion and fairness.

We also urge the public to avoid speculation while legal proceedings continue and to respect the privacy and dignity of Kirandeep’s family during this unimaginably difficult time.

Kirandeep was more than a headline. She was a daughter, a loved one, and, by all reports, a new mother whose future was stolen. Today, a baby has lost their mother, a family has lost their daughter, and a community mourns another young woman’s life cut tragically short.

May Kirandeep rest in peace, and may her family find strength in the difficult days ahead.
