Interfaith Potluck Gathering – September 5, 2025
Interfaith Potluck at Am Shalom Synagogue – A Blessed Evening of Building bridges
On Friday, September 5, 2025, I and few our lajna members from Hadeeqa Ahmad was honoured to participate and organise a heartfelt Interfaith Potluck hosted by the Jewish ladies of Am Shalom Synagogue. This gathering grew from the friendship formed after our Interfaith Symposium in October 2024. Since then, we’ve exchanged gifts—including a Quran with Hebrew translation—and attended each other’s events, nurturing a spirit of mutual respect and understanding.
By the grace of Allah, National Sadr Sahiba and National Tabligh Secretary graced the event. The hosts invited us to begin with a prayer and brief remarks. The synagogue’s Interfaith Chair warmly welcomed everyone, expressing admiration for our past events and eagerness for continued collaboration.
The program opened with Tilawat-e-Quran (Surah Al-Fatiha, Al-Nahl 16:37, and Al-Saffat 37:2–8), followed by Sadaf Shah Sahiba’s remarks. She introduced the Divine attribute Ar-Rahman (The Gracious), linked to Qur’an 35:25, and emphasized two key messages:
- Muslims are commanded to embody peace and mercy.
- We affirm belief in all prophets, including Krishna, Ram, Buddha, Moses, Jesus, and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
She highlighted the importance of dialogue, the guidance of our Khalifa Tul Massieh, and concluded with the words of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw): “A true Muslim should like for others what he likes for himself.”
The evening was filled with warm conversations. Many Jewish attendees expressed a desire to learn more about Islam and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. One noted that all four Muslim ladies at her table had mentioned God, sparking reflection on shared values. Informational flyers were taken, and one guest asked to learn about Islam from Ahmadiyya Muslim community perspective.
The event concluded with closing remarks from our side. Alhamdulillah, it was a beautiful opportunity to share the true teachings of Islam and strengthen interfaith bonds.
A Jewish Attendee Reflections:
One of the attendee expressed her feedback saying “This is beautiful. This needs to become a worldwide phenomenon!” And another showed her excitement by saying “This is beautiful! Something positive to appreciate in such a chaotic world. I’ll sleep a little better tonight. Thank you for hosting this!”
May Allah accept our humble efforts and place lasting goodness in the hearts of all who attended. Ameen.
