TEMPO.CO , Jakarta – The Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) is urging President Prabowo Subianto, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, and all elements of society to guarantee freedom of assembly and religion for the Ahmadiyya community . The non-governmental organization is urging the immediate revocation of the Banjar mayor’s decree on the suspension of Ahmadiyya in the region.
The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) reminded the Banjar City Ahmadiyah Congregation of its activities at the site, which were intended for worship. YLBHI believes the ban and suspension of the Ahmadiyah Congregation are in direct conflict with the principles of the rule of law and respect for freedom of assembly, as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution concerning freedom of religion and belief.
“In fact, the state should guarantee the freedom and safety of its citizens, not be the main actor in human rights violations,” YLBHI said on Friday, June 13, 2025, in a written statement on its website. The statement was issued jointly by Formationsi West Java, the Bandung Legal Aid Institute, Kabar Sejuk, and Jakatarub.READ ALSO

According to YLBHI, the freezing and prohibition of JAI activities carried out by the State through its government and security apparatus violates the provisions of Human Rights Article 1 paragraph (6) of the Human Rights Law. “State officials, whether intentionally or unintentionally or through negligence, are prohibited from limiting and/or revoking the human rights of an individual or group of people guaranteed by the Human Rights Law,” the statement read.
The sealing refers to Banjar Mayoral Regulation No. 10 of 2011 concerning the Suspension of Activities of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Congregation in Banjar City. The regulation is considered discriminatory, stemming from West Java Governor Regulation No. 12 of 2011 and Joint Decree of Three Ministers No. 3 of 2008.READ ALSO
