Safdar religious hatred

Earlier, a video of Captain retd. Safdar Awan went viral on social media where he threatened maulvis and incited hate speech against Justice (Retd) Ijaz Afzal Khan.

While addressing the media, Safdar Awan, husband of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz used strong words against Ijaz Afzal.

“If Ijaz Afzal dies then no one will offer his funeral prayers. You will not be forgiven on the Day of Judgement. Because he [Ijaz Afzal] represented Qadianis. He represented the enemies of the Prophet,” Safdar Awan said.

“I will personally deal with any maulvi willing to offer his funeral prayers,” he further added.

Needless to say, his crass statements did not sit well with social media users who demanded strict action against him. By retweeting the video, they claimed Safdar Awan has no authority to make such statements that incite violence and religious hatred. Furthermore, such hate-ridden statements later become excuses for blasphemy allegations.

Important to note, Safdar Awan often uses the religion card against Justice (Retd) Ijaz Afzal Khan due to the land dispute case.

Not the first time

Last week, Twitter once again slammed Safdar for his hateful comments against Pakistan’s Ahmadi community. Videos of him went viral on social media.

He made the comments while talking about the land dispute case. According to reports, a case was filed against the former judge’s son Saif Ali Khan and brother Sajjad Afzal Khan for allegedly grounding the boundary-wall of a 10-kanal disputed land and opening fire on the PML-N’s MNA Muhammad Sajjad Awan, who is the elder brother of Safdar Awan.

“The hostility is such that in the past he served the rebels of the 1973 constitution and the deniers of Kahtam-e-Naboowat as their lawyer. He fought four cases of Qadianis as per record and that is the reason of the opposition. It’s a spiritual case,” Safdar Awan said.

Safdar Awan also revealed that the Mansehra court proposed a truce between him and Ijaz Afzal. However, he rejected, citing religious reasons.

His comments caused quite a stir. Twitter users lashed out at the leader for spreading hate against Ahmadis for the gain of “personal purposes”.

Pertinent to mention, back in 2017, Capt. (retd) Safdar launched an attack on the Ahmadi community during his speech in the National Assembly. He called for a ban on hiring members of the Ahmadi community in the armed forces and other institutions of Pakistan.
