I am extremely saddened to learn about the vandalism at the Baitul Ehsan Mosque in Conception Bay South. The Baitul Ehsan Mosque, which is currently under construction, is the first mosque built by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the province.
The locals should remember that Islam is not to be feared because our mosques are meant to create bridges and spread peace.
When I was serving as an Imam in Sydney, N.S., and while being stationed there for three years, I made countless trips to St. John’s to promote the peaceful teachings of Islam and remove fear. Each and every event which was organized by the local chapter was successful and I was always greeted by the locals with open arms.
The locals should remember that Islam is not to be feared because our mosques are meant to create bridges and spread peace. His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed, worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, has stated, “Instead of destroying the peace of society, true mosques are built to foster peace between the peoples of different communities and beliefs.”
Till this day I remember the breathtaking scenes of Newfoundland and the remarkable hospitality shown by the locals. I hope and pray this type of incident is not repeated in the future.
