NEW HAVEN — A contractor has pulled a permit to reduce the size of minarets at a mosque on Middletown Avenue, an issue that had delayed needed repairs on the facility for two years.
Nepolitano Construction of Guilford was issued a building permit this week to do the work for the Turkish American Religious Foundation, which runs the mosque at 531 Middletown Ave.
Building Official Jim Turcio said he expects the cutback work at the building will begin shortly and take several weeks to complete.
Structural engineer Raffaele Aschettino was hired to come up with a plan on how to safely reduce the size of the minarets, which had exceeded what had been approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
