My personal ‘insider information’ told me that the last ‘regime change’ in Qatar was not quite ‘a friendly deal between father and son’ as it appeared.
The present Emir of Qatar is Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He is the Eighth and Current Amir of Qatar. He is the fourth son of the previous Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He became Emir of Qatar on 25th June 2013 after his father’s abdication. (Wikipedia)
Everyone was surprised at Sheikh Hamad’s abdication at the time. Who likes to give up power? H.M. The Queen of England does not have all that much power, but she does not want to abdicate. Saddam Hussain and Col. Ghaddafi preferred death to abdication (in spite of the fact of surely having a nice ‘retirement fund’ in Panama or somewhere similar).
My ‘insider information’ is that at the time two ‘gentlemen’ from the CIA arrived in Qatar and gave the Emir an ultimatum: Either you abdicate or we shall confiscate all your property in the USA (which is slightly considerable). Thus an ‘amicable arrangement’ was reached.
The reason at the time was also that Sheikh Hamad was not sufficiently ‘obedient’ to US ‘wishes’ (orders). He was an independent thinker. At the time they must have thought that the present Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was more ‘influence-able’ or more ‘obedient’. Apparently however Sheikh Tamim is as independent a thinker as Sheikh Hamad.
And, yes, I have no proof of the above. You may classify it as ‘conspiracy theories’ (which all ‘News Reports’ these days seem to be).
