The radicalisation hypothesis steers us away from the real causes of terrorism – and enables the west to maintain its denial about a role in helping create it
The word “radical” has always been an overly capacious term, easily filled with whatever meaning the speaker wants to pour into it. There is the radical right, the radical left, even the radical centre, whatever that means. Traditionally associated with the 18th-century English struggle to extend the franchise and with the cause of freedom, it has been one of those words no modern politician can do without. Google any of the current crop of parliamentarians adding the words “radical vision” and see what I mean. They’re all at it, all claiming it. Unless, of course, you put the word Islamic first. And then it immediately becomes a bogey word.
“How do we stop young Muslims becoming radicalised?” is the question we now continually ask. But it’s a deeply misleading question because it points us in the wrong direction. Why? Because it contains a hidden assumption that it is radical ideas, specifically Islamic theological ideas, that are the root cause of turning a young lad from West Yorkshire into an Isis suicide bomber in Iraq. According to the radicalisation hypothesis, it’s conservative Islam and the dangerous ideas contained in the Qur’an that motivate murderous behaviour.

The Crusades were started by Christians in their desire to have sole control over the Holy Land and by the desire of the Pope, Urban II, to unite the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church after the schism of 1054, against a common enemy, which was Islam, the Christian Crusaders had no desire to share the Holy land with anyone, in contrast under Muslim rule Jerusalem was a multicultural city with Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities, Jewish communities who had been invited back to Jerusalem by Muslims after the eviction of the Byzantine Empire and its anti-Semitic ban on Jews entering the city which had been imposed by the Romans after the Collapse of the Temple. Jews helped to defend the city alongside Muslims against the crusader army before they were massacred alongside the Muslims by the Crusaders. The Crusades aim was to capture the Holy land from the Muslim Arabs solely for Christianity, it was an act of imperialism, racism and Barbarism that the modern Western world is rightly ashamed of and now rejects, for you to seek to justify it is beyond belief, oh and btw the Mosque you are referring to in Jerusalem is the Al-Aqsa Mosque which was built on the temple mount, a site sacred to Jews that was destroyed by the Romans which has nothing to do with Christianity, and yes Christians subjected Jews to centuries of violent anti-Semitism, particularly during the inquisition when Jews and Muslims had to convert or otherwise leave, or stay and be burned at the stake as heretics.
All terrorists and extremists are home grown. Not a single terrorist is an immigrant, second or third generation Muslim youths become an extremist because they were mis-educated and de-educated by western education system. Most terrorists( as 7th July and Lee Rigby cases have shown) are home grown traitors. So no amount of “vetting” is going to stop that.
Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. There will never be an end to extremism as long as Muslim children keep on attending state schools with non-Muslim teachers. Muslim children must develop their cultural, linguistic and spiritual identity before they are exposed to out side world, otherwise, they would be lost in western jungle.

It’s bad if Muslims think violence can be justified, but it’s perfectly ok for us to bomb the living shit out of Muslims in the Middle East. I’m not loyal to the UK, preferring to be loyal to the wellbeing of humanity. National loyalty leads to tribalism, xenophobia and hate. Just look at UKIP. I am not extremist. Have you asked yourself why people are becoming fanatical or being radicalised? Yes. To want to go and kill people I suspect they have been brainwashed by clever, manipulative, evil extremists. Blamed to some extent on warmongering western politicians like Bush and Blair who think removing evil dictators can lead to stable democracy. Where did isis spring from? Not in Waltham Forest. I don’t think that is truly known but CBS reckon 12 of the leaders were in Camp Bucca in Iraq and that’s where they think it started. The war in Iraq opened up Pandora’s box when the control Saddam had on the many factions was lost. Did you know that a day before the diabolical attack in Paris there was also an attack in Beirut by isis claiming many Muslim lives and a week earlier a similar attack in Nigeria? No, not until mentioned on the news post-Paris. I don’t read newspapers these days. ISIS seem to want to murder anyone. if you are making a point about them killing Muslims then that is nothing unusual. Iran and Iraq managed to to kill at least 500,000 in their war.
Please tell me the difference between a bunch of Muslims killing innocent civilians, and drones sent by the West massacring entire families in Pakistan and Afghanistan. When ‘they’ kill, it’s terrorism, when ‘we’ kill, it’s necessary in order to ‘protect our way of life’.

Islamism is a form of clerical fascism that has very old roots, and while western foreign policy might be it’s biggest recruiter, Islamism’s main victims are Muslims and non-Muslims in the Middle East who reject it. Are we really saying to Muslims and people in the Middle East in particular that you only have a choice between destructive western hegemony and a totalitarian theocratic state and that we in the west, if we cannot support the former will not criticize the latter? In Islam there is no commandment to kill people by making such allegations against them. The cartoonists had exercised their freedom of expression, and freedom of expression is totally allowed in Islam. Even during the Prophet’s time there were several instances of ridicule, however the Prophet and his Companions neither punished such persons nor asked anyone to do so. On every occasion of this kind, the Prophet’s Companions always tried to positively disseminate the message of Islam. They never tried to punish these people. The killing of those people who had published the cartoons is a gravely un-Islamic act in the name of Islam. What did killing Saddam Hussain do. What did killing Osama Bin laden do? NOTHING!!!. The British establishment is wrong in thinking that Imams are to blame for extremism. Imams are not solution to the problem for extremism. Extremism is nothing to do with Imams. Extremism is not created from abroad, it is coming from within. Britain fails to help Muslim communities feel part of British society. Race trouble is being predicted by the Daily Express, because of an ethnic boom in UK major cities. Muslim communities need imams for the solutions of their needs and demands in their own native languages. Muslim parents would like to see their children well versed in Standard English and to go for higher studies and research to serve humanity. The fact is that majority of Muslim children leave schools with low grades because monolingual teachers are not capable to teach Standard English to bilingual Muslim children. A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. He/she does not want to become notoriously monolingual Brit.
None of 7/7 bombers and British Muslim youths who are in Syria and Iraq are the product of Muslim schools. They are the product of British schooling which is the home of institutional racism with chicken racist native teachers. It is absurd to believe that Muslim schools, Imams and Masajid teach Muslim children anti-Semitic, homophobic and anti-western views. It is dangerously deceptive and misleading to address text books and discuss them out of their historical, cultural and linguistic context.
Terrorism and sexual grooming is nothing to do with Masajid, Imams and Muslim schools. Those Muslim youths who have been involved in terrorism and sexual grooming are the product of western education system which makes a man stupid, selfish and corrupt. They find themselves cut off from their cultural heritage, literature and poetry. They suffer from identity crises and I blame British schooling.
Muslim community needs Masajid, state funded Muslim schools with Muslim teachers, halal meat, sharia laws, time off for Friday afternoon prayers in the Masjid, tow official religious holidays per year and Muslim cemeteries, otherwise, the future generations would be lost in western jungle. West must learn to respect and tolerate those who are different. Don’t these hypocrites idiots know what their ancestors did to Native American Indians they slaughtered 150 millions of Native American Indians! and also do they know that Great Britain invaded 80% countries around the world? They should call them terrorist first and as well call their ancestors terrorist! British did the same to Native American Indians and sadly they still treat Native American Indians badly! A Muslim is a citizen of this tiny global village. The whole world belongs to Muslims. It does not mean that we are going to throw native Brits into English channel or force them to live in reservations like Red Indian. They are going to live side by side with the Muslims and with other minority communities. Why can’t each nationality and religion keep its own identity. The animal world can see it. Of the 40 species of sparrows they will not cross breed. This will keep the beauty of each bird. People should learn from them.
Multiculturalism is not about integration but about cultural plurality. It is not about separation but about respect and the deepening awareness of Unity in Diversity. Each culture will maintain its own intrinsic value and at the same time would be expected to contribute to the benefit of the whole society. Multiculturalism can accommodate diversity of all kinds – cultural, philosophical and religious – so that we can create a world without conflict and strife. Britain can assume the role of accommodation and concern for all peoples, for our planet and indeed for our survival. Multi-Culturalism is even more important and crucial after 9/11 and 7/7. Muslim youths are also likely to feel alienated by a focus on shared Brutishness, rather than multicultural diversity. Rather than promoting a single British “us” teaching should acknowledge that “us” can be diverse and plural. Children should be encouraged to explore differences in appearance, history and religion to reduce social and educational fears.
No one has any problem when: Jews keep beards and wear their traditional caps Christian priests and nuns wear their religious outfits Buddhist monks wear orange robes Sikhs keep beards and wear turbans Indian aunties wear Sarees (cross streets and hang out in Wal-Mart) Yeah but if any Muslim male keeps beard or if any Muslim girl wears hijab then everyone has problem. It’s Freedom when you go naked but it’s extremism when you wear hijab – just plain hypocrisy! Looking at the case of France, a major secular nation, I believe it is also not allowing women freedom by not letting her to wear her choice of clothing as it supposedly “clashes with French secular values”.
Speaking English does not promote integration into British, American and Australian societies, and broaden opportunities. English speaking Muslim youths are angry, frustrated and extremist, thanks to state schools with monolingual non-Muslim teachers and English language. English language is not only a lingua franca but also lingua frankensteinia. Human right are also covers linguistic right. Cultural and linguistic genocide are very common. British schooling is murdering community languages like Arabic, Urdu and others. English is today the world killer language. Linguistic genocide is a crime against humanity and British schooling is guilty of committing this crime. Language is not just a language. It defines one’s culture, identity and consciousness. It defines how we think, communicate and express ourselves. The fact is the most South Asian Muslims have come to know Islam by way of Urdu, the children’s alienation from the language that connects them the heritage of their parents and grandparents is disturbing. As a matter of fact, one has to get to know his mother tongue well if one is to master any other language.
When a native Brit goes to Middle East, he is called a voluntary fighter. When a Muslim goes there he is called a terrorist. Double standard by the British society. Also lot of British Jews went to Israel to fight but on their return no action was taken against them.
