266. Commandment to spy not
[49:13] O ye who believe! avoid most of suspicions; for suspicion in some cases is a sin. And spy not, nor back-bite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his brother who is dead? Certainly you would loathe it. And fear Allah, surely, Allah is Oft-Returning with compassion and is Merciful.

It is a great lesson from the Quran for good human behavior. The words used not to spy are “La tajassasou”.
Tajassus i.e. Jaasoosi is bad. Quran is against Tajassus. On the other hand, when seeking something important, looking and searching for something or getting information about something which is missing, the Quran uses an other beautiful word “Tahassus”.
That word is found in chapter 12 when the brothers of Joseph (a.s.) were sent to Egypt for the third time by their father (Jacob a.s.).
He advised them to look for Joseph and his brother (Benjamin) with good FEELINGS. That was just to be well behaved people with open ears and eyes and with open heart, to look for (and to seek out) the 2 brothers.
Also to speak the truth. i.e. to mention the name of Joseph before the authorities. In their previous two visits, they had failed to mention the name of Joseph even when prompted to do so.
