Our Favorite Christian Prayer by Saint Francis

Saint Francis of Assisi (Italian: San Francesco d’Assisi); nicknamed Francesco; 1181/1182 – October 3, 1226)[1][3] was an Italian Catholic friar and preacher. He founded the men’s Order of Friars Minor and the women’s Order of St. Clare.[1] Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in the Christian history.[1]

In 1219, he went to Egypt in an attempt to convert the Sultan to put an end to the conflict of the Crusades.[5]

One of the popular prayers by Saint Francis is reproduced below:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

  1. Say, ‘O People of the Book! come to a word equal between us and you — that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partner with Him, and that some of us take not others for Lords beside Allah.’ But if they turn away, then say, ‘Bear witness that we have submitted to God.’ (Al Quran 3:65)

  2. @ Zhia and all Muslim around the world.
    DO NOT ASSOCIATE ALLAH WITH OTHERS, ONLY ALLAH ALONE!

    DO NOT KISS THE BLACK STONE OF KA’BAA & ASWAD IF YOU DO YOU FALL INTO SYRICK.
    Kaaba and Asward are used for direction of Shalat where ever you be. Not for kissing and touching.

    Allah; And from wheresoever you start forth (for prayers), turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-Al-Harâm
    And from wheresoever you start forth (for prayers), turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid-Al-Harâm (at Maccah), that is indeed the truth from your Lord.Q.2;149.

    FALSE HADITH
    Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allah said: “The Black Stone came down from Paradise.”

    A fairy tales of ancient times, from unknown imam, lack of knowledge. Why Muslims believe this name? I just cannot believe it. They do not use their mind at all.

    As Allah warned;
    and They have taken their imams , Clerics and their monks as gods beside Allah,Q. 9;31.
    There is no a verse that say; kiss the Ka’abah and Asward Stone in Al Quran.

    I urge Muslim who go to Mecca for Hajji, please do not kiss black stone asward etc. The stone is a stone, cannot bring bless from Allah for you. Pegan used to kiss many stones around Kaaba before Islam came to Meccah. They were lack of knowledge or idiot.

      • Of course you are right. The ‘Muslim way’ of prayers however has a deeper meaning. Even an American Bishop once said ‘families that pray together stay together’. Consequently to pray together strengthens the community. For more please check out ‘www.alislam.org’ library !
