Re: “Teaching peace,” Letter, Oct. 1.

Letter writer Omar Farooq outlines wonderfully the importance education plays in clashing extremist ideologies. Also commenting on the peaceful teachings of Islam, he hints toward the larger Islamic community being peaceful, law-abiding citizens, and groups such as ISIS as merely hijackers of faith. It is awesome to see young people take a stand and speak well.

I take pride in calling myself a Canadian as well, because of the efforts our government is doing to educate youth about the dangers of radicalization and its contradiction with faith. As Mirza Tahir Ahmad, the former head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, so beautifully said: “May Canada become the world and the world become Canada.”
